New CD Duplication Packaging Added

November 17, 2011 Leave a comment

New CD Duplication Packaging AddedWe are pleased to announce that we’ve added a great new CD duplication packaging option.

Introducing the CS400 CD Jewel Case Slip Cover – what a great way to dress up an already great product!

The CS400 is open on both ends (essentially a ‘tube pocket’) so a standard single disc capacity CD Jewel Case can be inserted or removed from either end.

Note: The CS400 is not suitable for Slim CD Jewel Cases, or Jewel Cases thicker than the standard one disc capacity case.

The CS400 CD Jewel Case Slip Cover features full colour CMYK (4/0) printing on eco-friendly 15pt recycled boardstock and we’ve added it as a separate ‘add-on’ item to our web-quote system. That just means that you quote CD duplication package and the Slip Cover independently of each other.

Minimum order quantity for this great new CD packaging option is just 25 units – so whether you are interested in short-run CD duplication (up to 299 units) or larger run CD replication (300 units or more), you can take advantage of this product.

Questions? Comments? Don’t hesitate to contact us – we always appreciate hearing from you!

More Happy Customers!

It’s always great to hear back from clients so we thought that we’d share a few of our most recent testimonials with you!

“I would like to pass on many thanks to yourself and your team. You were all amazing throughout every step of the way. I’d also like to say a big big thank you for getting the product to us on time, for the EP release party. Precision Disc did a fantastic job, as always! And I will definitely be coming back again with MORE TIME to spare!”  ~  Disa C.

This client sent this comment to the members of his Professional Videographers Association:  “I just received 1000 replicated DVDs all packaged up and I’m really happy with the company that did it for me.  Precision Disc (http://www.predisc.com) is a company that has a manufacturing plant in Surrey, B.C.  I tried working with a local outfit that is an agent for a big replication house in eastern Canada. I had used them before but they have changed hands and the new owners haven’t got a clue. Precision Disc has a great system that keeps you up to speed on the progress of the job and they’re super easy to work with.  You can get a quote online very quickly unless your job is outside the normal in which case you just call them. Their prices were lower than I expected. If you have a replication job, these are your people!  I can’t recommend them highly enough.”  ~  Steve B.

“Thanks for all your hard work on my last project.  I’ve featured your company on my website, which is designed to help artists save money so they can continue to make art.”  ~  Punam

“I got my discs back, and I phoned… but wanted to follow up with an email as well. I just could NOT be any happier with how it all came out. It looks EXACTLY how I imagined. There is always so much room for disappointment in these matters, but, you guys did a magnificent job. Also, it was ready a bit early, and for that, I must say thank you! (anxious girl that I am). What a great surprise. For any future projects, I would not dream of going through anybody else. Thank you, thank you, thank you a million times over!”  ~  Kelly H.

Creating Printer Spreads for CD DVD Booklets

For inexperienced designers, figuring out the correct page sequencing when designing a CD Booklet or DVD Booklet can be rather confusing. This article is intended to clarify the difference between what looks right and what is actually right. In short, Printer Spreads versus Reader Spreads.

If you’d like to include additional information in your CD duplication or DVD duplication project you will likely need to incorporate a booklet into your budget and designs.

Booklets tend to be more popular than “folders” because we’re much more accustomed to the format of a booklet. Just like a book or magazine, a booklet is folded in half and is stapled in the middle, so they are very compact and easy to browse through.

Printer Spread Page Sequencing

Designing the booklet for your CD duplication or DVD duplication project shares many of the same design rules that apply to every other aspect of your project, but there is one commonly overlooked aspect we want to bring to your attention: Printer Spreads.

Through a whole lifetime of familiarity with books and magazines we know that ‘page 3’ comes after ‘page 2’ and then ‘page 4’ comes after ‘page 3’. This is absolutely correct after a book has been printed, cut, assembled and stitched but you actually have to design it counter-intuitively.

For the purposes of your CD duplication or DVD duplication project your ‘booklet’ is a series of 2 panel folders that are stacked together, stapled and then folded to create the book. There is a specific page order required to assure the booklet has the correct page sequence after it has been assembled, and this sequence (or page order) is referred to as Printer Spreads.

Create A Mock-Up

The best way for you to see this is to make a Printer Spread mock-up of something simple. Here’s how you can create a Printer Spread mock-up of a 4 panel (8 page) booklet using two pieces of scrap paper:

New CD DVD Duplication Tower Added

CD DVD Duplication TowerWe have recently added a new disc duplication tower to our short-run CD duplication and DVD duplication department which will increase our ability to serve our clients needs.

The new eleven-drive disc duplication tower consists of one master and ten slave drives which will increase short-run CD duplication and DVD duplication capacity nicely. This extra capacity, in turn, will enhance our ability to meet quick turn-time requirements for the following products:

  • CD Audio, CD ROM
  • DVDR (single and dual layer)
  • Blu-ray (single layer)
  • Mini CDR and CDR Business Cards

Our short-run CD duplication and DVD duplication department produces discs in quantities that are not cost-effective enough for replication. With our minimum order requirement for disc replication being just 300 units, most duplication run quantities are between 50 and 200 units.

Regardless of this, we are happy to produce any quantity you require and because we produce almost all of our own custom print and packaging in-house (over 95%), we are able to provide some of our most popular eco-friendly disc packaging solutions in short-run quantities. This includes our Eco-Sleeves and Digipak for both CD and DVD in quantities as low as 100 units.

CD manufacturing In A Rush

January 27, 2010 3 comments

Whatever has happened to planning and preparation – especially when it comes to getting CD manufacturing done?

While CD manufacturing and CD duplication companies want to honor the old adages of “The customer is King” and “The customer is always right” there are some real inherent risks involved for clients who create rigid deadlines for the production of these kinds of custom-made products. Due to this I thought it was apt to re-publish an article I wrote for our sister-website at CDwest.ca.

If you’re organized and well-prepared, the CD manufacturing process can be surprisingly quick but you have to be ready for potential delays such as graphic design issues or even data flaws in your content master. We certainly can’t fault artists for being excited about unveiling their shiny new CD, but many times that excitement causes the artist to overlook important planning details.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking your release party is supposed to be the first time that anyone sees or hears your CD. Why do major record labels and movie studios promote their new releases in advance of actually releasing them? Imagine a big blockbuster production silently appearing in stores or theatres without the benefit of advertising, artist interviews, rave reviews, public appearances and press junkets. If the release isn’t hyped in advance by promotion, who is going to know about it? Who is going to care? Who will be lining up to buy it? The same thinking applies to your CD release party.

Your CD is only new once so take advantage of this great opportunity to promote yourself and your music – the purpose of which is to drive loads of people towards your release party. The time you spend waiting for your CD manufacturing is the perfect time to create a detailed plan about what you’re going to do when your discs arrive.

• Once you’ve got your CDs in-hand pick a release date that gives you plenty of time for promotion and doesn’t compete with other major events in your town.

• Write out a schedule for your promotional plans. Set targets, goals and completions dates.

• “WIIFM”: What’s In It For Me? This is the philosophy to keep in mind when you’re trying to attract new fans (ie: customers). Remember, your CD release party is for the fans… not the band… so provide lots of reasons why people should be excited about attending.

• Targeting Fans: There is no point spending time and money to promote yourself to people who won’t like your music. Find out where your type of crowd is (on the street, on the internet, in print publications) and then saturate those areas with interesting promotions.

• Targeting Media – Research local media outlets and figure out who the right people are to talk to for reviews, interviews and even personal appearances. Call them and ask permission to send them your press-kit for consideration. Be friendly and polite, and follow-up with them.

• Artist/Sponsor Alliances: There are local businesses who will want to take advantage of having all your fans together in one place at one time so see if they are willing to offset some of your promotional costs (like posters and hand-bills) or if they will offer some prizes or give-aways in exchange for advertising or on-site access.

Remember – the vibe at a sold-out show is 10-times more exciting than having every second chair empty, so create excitement and anticipation for your CD release party. Don’t blow it with poor planning… get your CD manufacturing plans and preparations done in advance as to avoid the risk of having your CDs show up a week after your party.

Shipping Your CD or DVD Order via Courier

If your CD manufacturing or DVD manufacturing order is being shipped to you via a courier or freight company, please ensure you you examine the boxes BEFORE you sign for them.

At Precision Disc, when we ship your CD or DVD order we inspect it before it leaves our building to make sure that:

  • The items are packed properly.
  • The order is packed in suitable boxes for its weight.
  • The boxes are is closed securely.
  • The boxes are free from damage before they leave our site.

Examine your shipment before you sign for it!

Have you ever taken the time to read a Bill Of Lading? Right next to where you sign your name there will be a declaration stating that the goods were “Received in good condition” or a statement very similar to that. When you sign the Bill Of Lading you are actually agreeing that the shipment you received was in good condition.

So then, what happens if you do sign for the shipment without examining it first and then realize some of your CDs or DVDs were damaged in transit? The answer is, that you may have a battle on your hands with the courier company because they are the ones who are responsible for your order while it is in their possession… and you signed the Bill Of Lading.

How can you avoid this situation?

Before you sign anything you should carefully inspect the outside of the boxes for any signs of damage. Examples of damage include gouges in the sides of the boxes, dented edges or corners, the appearance that the box may have broken open and been taped shut again, etc. It is also recommended that you open any suspicious boxes (or even ALL of the boxes) to examine some of the product inside. Better safe than sorry!

As noted in our Terms of Business, Precision Disc Manufacturing Corp. “is not responsible for loss, damage or delay of products after they have left our premises.” We’re a manufacturing company – not a courier company – so we have no control over the way the courier or freight company handles your CD duplication or DVD duplication order after it has left our facility.

Naturally, we want our clients to received their CD and DVD orders on-time and in good condition, so we don’t use just any couriers. If we experience complaints about a particular freight company we will not use them again but, as stated, that still doesn’t give us control over the shipment after it has left our building.

CD Business Cards – Pure Marketing Gold!

What would your business cards say if they could talk? Better yet, what you want them to say? If you had a CD Business Card not only would you have a business card that could ‘talk’ but you’d also have one that could display video, text, graphics, documents and even connect to your website. Imagine handing something that powerful and that dynamic to a prospective customer or client – it would raise your promotional and marketing efforts to an entirely new level.

Behold the marketing tool that can provide all of the following benefits in a single easy to use and low cost format:

• The visual impact of television
• The audio impression of radio
• The detail of a catalog
• The targeting of direct mail
• The interactivity of the internet
• The cost-effectiveness of commercial print
• And the sophistication of new media

While this may sound like a novel concept it’s all based on the same CD manufacturing technology and that has been used for years. Despite its distinctive size and shape it’s no different than any other CDROM and works like any other: Simply place it into any tray-loading CD or DVD computer drive and let the disc and its contents go to work.

As a marketing tool the CD Business Card is the perfect marriage of media and message. The unique and eye-catching disc makes it stand out from traditional marketing materials and helps to increase its longevity and the perception of its value. Bottom line, by breaking the cycle of junk-mail, brochures, pamphlets and catalogs, the success rate and return on investment of your direct-marketing efforts increases.

The disc is the delivery vehicle for the message, but it’s the message that makes the viewer really take notice. Despite its diminutive appearance the disc has enough storage capacity to deliver a dynamic and meaningful presentation that makes a lasting impression about your company, products, services and brand. Through the use of multimedia you have the unprecedented ability to inform, stimulate, educate and even entertain your target audience. Discs are the only physical media which has the ability to link through to the business website for immediate contact, breaking news, premium/incentive offerings, additional information, etc. Providing a link through to your website gives you the ability to measure response, educate the visitor on a wider range of products/services, generate web-commerce, and provides increased hits to support on-line advertising revenue streams.

The effectiveness of marketing with a CD Business Card is remarkable. Research has shown that direct-marketing response rates are between 50% and 600% greater than with traditional direct mail (typical print direct mail generating 1-2% response rates versus disc direct mail generating between 3% and 12% response rates). Research has also shown that marketing with CDs provides 50% to 60% greater memory retention than with traditional printed materials (10-20% retention with print versus 40-60% with CD/DVD).

As easy to distribute as regular paper business cards, your CD Business Card is a natural for meetings, presentations, trade shows, direct-mail and as ‘leave behinds’. If sales is the life-blood of your company you’ll want to investigate this little disc for yourself. It may be small but it carries a big marketing punch.
